The process of selection of the grantees, from the moment of reception of the applications until the announcement of the selected grantees is as follows:

 

STEP 1

Registration and Administrative Check of Applications by Ithra

Ithra's staff conducts a registration and administrative check to screen the received applications to ensure that they comply with Ithra’s grant guidelines and requirements, (for example: if the application is complete, samples have been submitted, the budget is clear, project fits the call categories, the proposal topic is relevant to Ithra’s mission, etc.). The applications that pass the screening are sent by email to the jurors.

STEP 2

Evaluation of the projects by the jurors

The applications are sent to the jury committee. They evaluate the projects according to the criteria listed below.

 

Evaluation criteria:

RELEVANCE AND CONNECTIVITY (grade 1-4)

  • Of the project to the context where the project is implemented
  • Of the project to the culture scene
  • Of the project to a wider discussion/topic

 

QUALITY AND INNOVATION (grade 1-4)

  • Proposal as a whole (coherence, clarity...)
  • Contribution of the project to the applicant’s standing in the field of specialization
  • Elements of innovation/originality (at the level of tools, topic, artistic approach/treatment…)
  • Past experiences/projects

 

ADMINISTRATIVE / TECHNICAL QUESTIONS (grade 1-2)

  • Budget (feasibility of proposed project, balanced distribution of requested amounts)
  • Implementation plan (clear, realistic results)
  • Outputs

 

ADDITIONAL POINTS / OPTIONAL (grade 1 or zero)

  • Does the project bring added value at the level of the topic? 

In addition to this evaluation, every juror is asked to write a detailed comment about every project, explaining his/her opinion about the project, including a general comment about the project, points of strength, and points of weaknesses of the project….

STEP 3

Analysis of Juror’s Recommendations by Ithra 

Ithra staff collect and analyze the recommendations of each individual juror by ranking the applicants’ scores and pinpointing discrepancies between the various evaluations. This process will yield a short list and ensures productive and focused discussion during the selection committee meetings.

STEP 4

Send the short list to Ithra internal jurors from Ithra

Ithra will appoint two internal jurors for each category, each juror will evaluate the short-listed projects on similar criteria mentioned above to prepare for the jurors’ meeting.

 

STEP 5

Selection of the grantees by the jurors’ committee at Ithra

 

The selection committee, made up of three external and two internal members for each category, is invited to Ithra to discuss and select the winning grantees. 

STEP 6

Approval by Ithra Board and Grantees Announcement

Ithra’s team compiles the final selections of the winning grantees and prepares a report for Ithra management indicating applicant statistics, grantee statistics and selected grantees. Upon Ithra management approval, the grantees are contacted for the final step.

STEP 7

Notification and Contracting Grantees

Selected grantees are contacted and a grant contract is negotiated and signed with Ithra, before announcement on the Ithra website and its social media channels.
