FIKR17, one of the Arab World’s leading cultural and academic conferences is held at Ithra in partnership with the Arab Thought Foundation. In line with the conference’s thought-provoking themes, Ithra has commissioned exclusive artwork by visionary Saudi artist Muhannad Shono, to be displayed on premises during FIKR17.
Shono’s commission, “Speak, no one is listening”, explores new ways of communication and expression; aligning with FIKR17’s focus on dialogue and idea exchange.
The piece, invites the public to type out messages and watch them transmitted and made tangible before their very eyes, transforming words to sound and ideas to reality.
Shono’s work addresses theology and culture, and primarily uses ink, paper, film, sculpture and machinery in his pieces.
