Course Brief Description:

This foundational jewelry course welcomes jewelry designers, artisan craftsmen, metalsmiths and jewelers to learn all about fundamental jewelry making techniques. By the end of the course, participants will be able to practice several jewelry techniques and translate their designs into wearable unique pieces of jewelry.

 

Course Objectives:

  • Introduce participants to jewelry techniques such as sawing, drilling, piercing, hammer texturing, filing, sanding and polishing.
  • Utilize design templates.
  • Drawing to scale.
  • Be able to transfer designs to metal sheets.
  • Create a set of jewelry (not just one piece, but two pieces that go together).

 

Course Outcomes:

  • To utilize the skills learned in physical practice.
  • To complete two pieces of finished jewelry of their designs, made entirely by hand from start to finish.

"The Design Studio by Azza Fahmy"

Shahd Essam is an Egyptian Jewelry Maker & Architect. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the German University in Cairo (2018). Driven by her passion for jewelry design, she pursued further studies at the Design Studio by Azza Fahmy, graduating in 2021. Since then, Shahd has been a key member of the DSAF teaching team, where she started shortly after graduation and has since become one of the lead instructors. Her formal training equipped her with advanced technical expertise in metalworking, stone setting, casting, engraving, and enamel work, forming the foundation for her ability to create intricate, custom jewelry pieces that merge traditional craftsmanship with modern design principles. 
In addition to her jewelry training, Shahd pursued a two-year study program in Traditional Arts through the King’s Foundation School for Traditional Arts (London) and Al Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo. Shahd has led numerous workshops across Egypt and the MENA region (including Qatar and Jordan), further showcasing her technical proficiency. She continues to refine her skills and share her knowledge through participation in international exhibitions, including her latest involvement in the (Now and Else Where) exhibition in Austria.

"The Design Studio by Azza Fahmy"

Robeir Amir is an Egyptian third-generation jeweler with a deep passion for the craft, specializing in goldsmithing. His technical expertise in jewelry-making is grounded in both his family legacy and formal training. While his background in marketing and management has played a key role in expanding his family business, it is his mastery of traditional and modern jewelry techniques that sets his work apart. 
In 2013, Robeir formalized his skills by enrolling in a course at DSAF during its inaugural year. He furthered his education at the Design Studio by Azza Fahmy where he refined his proficiency in goldsmithing, metalworking, stone setting, engraving, and casting, to become a graduate of the studio. Today, Robeir is a lead instructor at the studio, where he imparts his extensive knowledge and expertise to aspiring jewelers. his work is distinguished by his meticulous attention to detail.
Robeir’s dedication to sharing his craft extends beyond his workshop, having also contributed to teaching in the MENA region, including Qatar.
