Fatima Sharafeddine

Fatima Sharafeddine has been fully dedicated to writing and translating for children and young adults since 2001. Her educational background is in early childhood education and modern Arabic literature. She works with several publishers and has written and published over 140 books, many of which have been translated to various languages, among which are Dutch, Danish, Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian, German, English, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Turkish, Norwegian, Italian and Swedish. Fatima regularly travels across the Arab world and Europe to participate in book fair events, author tours and workshops. She is an active member in LBBY, the Lebanese branch of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People).
Through the years, she has received a number of awards and honors, including the 2017 Etisalat award for the YA book of the year for “Cappuccino” (Dar Al-Saqi), and the Bologna Ragazzi New Horizons Award for “Lisanak Hisanak” (Kalimat publishers). She has been nominated five times for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Fatima conducts creative writing workshops with groups and individuals across the Arab world, namely in the UAE and KSA, and trains teachers and librarians on how to share a book with children and to conduct activities around it, in order to reinforce knowledge and develop imagination and creativity in children.
