Peter Sanders

Peter Sanders

Peter Sanders, in the course of more than 55 years, has captured over half a million images reflecting a rich, traditional civilization filled with warmth, humanity and compassion. His early pictures of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones are today considered classics of the period. His physical journey ran parallel with his own spiritual exploration. These journeys led him to the in-depth documentation of the Islamic world of peoples, as well as architecture, geography and culture. It is the personal and spiritual insight that Sanders gained that allows him to produce images that truly encapsulate the subject. More recently, Sanders has been active in numerous ways to facilitate a greater spiritual and broader understanding of the Islamic faith in the Western world. He is currently working on many new publications and he has just completed and published a 50-year-long book project titled Meetings with Mountains, Encounters with Saints and Sages of the Islamic World with a foreword by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Based on the success of this, he is collaborating on another series of monographs, Exemplars for our Time, featuring individual saintly exemplars and exploring their lives as examples for others. He is also finalizing his book Heaven, Earth and the 10,000 Things, the Lives of the Muslims of China, which explores links between Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism and Islam.
