Dr.Hanan Makki

A multidisciplinary artist, researcher and trainer specializing in game development, interactive design, multimedia and Islamic art, Hanan Makki holds a doctorate in video games from the University of Glasgow, Scotland and a master’s in creative design from De Montfort University, England. Makki’s recent research has focused on developing the therapeutic, educational, cultural and artistic potential of digital gaming.

Makki is currently the Director of the Games Program at the Saudi Digital Academy under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in addition to being the co-founder of Qindeel Studio, where she has developed two interactive and story-based VR games: Hijaz Train: A Poem Erased by Days and Sarab: A City under the Sands, which won the Most Promising Game in Saudi Arabia Award at the Leap 2022 conference.

Makki is also a Woman in Games Ambassador (WIGJ) for the UK.

Her research papers and artworks have been featured at national and international conferences and exhibitions, earning her grants and invitations from prestigious organizations. Makki is interested in integrating disciplines to produce enriching scientific and cultural content, such as combining technology with art, or psychology with education. She is also interested in the development of the digital games industry in the Kingdom and enhancing its role in society.
