HE Sheikha Hala AlKhalifa
Hala Mohammed Al Khalifa balanced a career in both the arts as a practicing artist, and in the field of museums. Throughout her journey in both fields, she worked closely with many local and international artists on various exhibitions, public art commissions and publications.
Being an artist herself was a helpful asset that facilitated much collaboration with harmony and a great deal of dedication. She believes that art has the power to transform, to illuminate and to educate, inspire and motivate.
Her role in the field of museums further nurtured her connection to the arts, allowing her to explore new programs and projects. She is a firm believer in the role of cultural institutions in promoting knowledge and exposing communities to the wealth of history, and the stimulating evolvement of creative minds that allow for the growth of any community. Realizing that the main role of any cultural institution is the power to tell a story, build a theme, and spread knowledge and beauty.
She has a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University & The Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston, and an MFA in Arts from The Slade School, UCL, London. She made a conscious decision to seek for an active role in the fields of culture and arts, joining prestigious institutions and developing grass root projects like the Fire Station Artist in Residence in Doha, Qatar and setting up the Education department programs for the Museum of Islamic Arts Doha, Qatar. She has also led the development of two newly designed art and archaeology galleries for the new airport in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
With her capacity in her current role as Director General at The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, she developed a wide range of programs; Food is Culture, Oral History documentaries, Intangible Heritage preservation, Artist in Schools initiative and other projects that aim to nurture the growth and development communities through art and culture; in addition to a new partnership to consult with the development of the pavilion for The Secretariat General of Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, for their participation in Expo Dubai 2020. This project involved the development of the building, the content, and overall mission to be the highlight for audiences of expo.
