Kameel Hawa

Kameel Hawa draws, paints, sculpts and designs. He creates Arabic typefaces, two of which have won the TDC award of typographic excellence. An autodidactic artist, he is best known today for his typographic sculptures such as the name of the Lebanese capital Beirut, the acronym of his university ‘’AUB’’ in Arabic, and the eight sculptural interpretations of the word ‘’Fann’’ (Arabic for ‘’Art’’) displayed during Beirut Art Week 2014. As an accomplished designer, Kameel founded AlMohtaraf over three decades ago. AlMohtaraf is a regional graphic design house, which is well-known for combining aesthetics with modern design solutions, seasoned by indigenous needs and values. In his practice, Hawa is well known for his exquisite sketches that inspire both his design work as well as his fine art pieces. Recently, he added two major public sculptures, mainly the original Ithra monument unveiled during Arab Thought Conference and ESA business school in Beirut.
