Serena Cangiano, Ph.D

Serena Cangiano is Head of Digital Fabrication Lab SUPSI and Co-founder at Ethafa Design Innovations.
Driven by creativity and entrepreneurship, Cangiano instigates and delivers research and industry projects at the intersection between design, technology and digital making. Born in Italy and based in Switzerland, she is a researcher/designer/entrepreneur who employs open design methods to develop digital interactive projects as well as educational experiences for creative innovators. At SUPSI University in Switzerland, she founded and directs the Digital Fabrication and Open Innovation Lab, a space for fostering digital skills and transformative digital processes in design and architecture. She is co-founder of Ethafa Design Innovation, a studio focusing on innovative educational experiences and products for the next generation of digital makers. She teaches multimodal experience design at MA in Interaction Design SUPSI where she also curates the series MAInD Expanding Talks. She gave workshops and public talks at events such as LIFT Conference Geneva, HEK Basel, LIMA Platform for Media Art Amsterdam, ISEA HK, and the Danish Design Center. As a designer, her work has been exhibited at the Seoul Architecture Biennale, Swiss Institute in Milan, and Centre Pasquart. As a researcher and curator, she currently works on the topic of sustainable urban manufacturing, a project funded by the EU program, The New European Bauhaus.
